This paper takes Gomikawa’s debut novel, The Human Condition, as the object of study, and, using the relationship between the author’s experiences and his creative works as a starting point, examines the power relationship between “nation” and “individual” in the extreme situation of war in literature, and reveals the thorough obliteration of humanity by war. Based on this, we have shown that war is a thorough erasure of humanity. Based on \nthis, we explored the writers’ thoughts on the possibility of human beings living as human beings. We also attempted to discover the position of each in the triune structure of “nation,” “war,” and　“human being.
