| 内容記述 | 中世史料にしばしば現れる音に関する文言の一つに「魂打」がある。その語義は辞書に示されているものの、史料記述に合わないという問題が存在している。語義が明確となっていない「魂打」は事例が少ないために十分な検討がなされていなかった。本稿は現在確認できる「魂打」のすべての事例を分析することで、語義を明らかにすることを試みた。その結果、「魂打」は「人魂」が鳴らす雷鳴のような音を意味していることが分かった。また、近世前期には雷鳴そのものを指す場合もあったようである。中世には、「人魂」が人の死の予兆として認識されていた。そのため、「人魂」の出現は重大な事件とされた。また、史料では流星を「人魂」と呼ぶ例が存在する。流星が出現するときには、雷鳴のような音がする場合があったといい、人々は「人魂」（流星）の姿が見えずとも音を手がかりに出現したと推測した。「魂打」の使われている『吾妻鏡』の事例では、「魂打」が雷鳴の音ではないと書かれているが、これは「人魂」出現という死の予兆であると認識されないための措置であったと考えられる。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | “Tama-uchi” is one of the terms related to sound that frequently appears in medieval historical documents. Although its meaning is given in dictionaries, there is a problem that it does not match the description in historical documents. The meaning of “tama-uchi” is unclear, and there are few examples, so it has not been thoroughly studied. This paper attempts to clarify the meaning of the word by analyzing all currently confirmed examples of “tama-uchi”. As a result, it was found that “tama-uchi” means the thunder-like sound made by floating spirit. It also seems that in the early modern period, it sometimes referred to thunder itself. In the Middle Ages, floating spirit was recognized as a sign of a person’s death. For that reason, the appearance of floating spirit was considered a serious event. There are also examples in historical documents where shooting stars are called “hitodama (floating spirit)”. It is said that when a shooting star appeared, the thunder-like sound was sometimes made, and people assumed that a floating spirit (shooting star) appeared based on the sound, even if they could not see it. In the example of Azuma Kagami where “tama-uchi” is used, it is written that“tama-uchi” is not the sound of thunder, but this was thought to have been a measure to prevent it from being perceived as an omen of death, such as the appearance of a floating spirit. |
