| 内容記述 | 『玄奘三蔵絵』は唐の高僧である玄奘の生涯を描く絵巻であり、全十二巻、七十六段からなっている。絵巻の詞書は『大慈恩寺三蔵法師伝』（以下は『慈恩伝』と略す）を底本としながら、単なる和訳に止まらず、省略や改ざん、加筆なども加えられている。従来の研究において、詞書と底本の比較を通して、玄奘のイメージを分析する論文はまだ少ない。本稿は詞書と底本を詳細に比較し、三つの方面から『玄奘三蔵絵』ならではの玄奘のイメージを明らかにした。結論として、旅人としての玄奘に関して、絵巻は『瑜伽論』を求め、釈尊を記念する聖迹を巡礼することに重点を置いているのが分かった。その中に、一人で壮挙を成し遂げ、各国の人々に尊敬され、供養されている玄奘のイメージを明らかにした。次に、宗教学習の面では、絵巻の方は「専修大乗」より、「唯修大乗」の玄奘のイメージが強いと考えられる。最後に、訳経者としての玄奘に関して、本絵巻は皇帝に崇拝され、「平穏」な訳経生活を送る玄奘のイメージを構築したのが分かった。 | |||||||||

| 内容記述 | The Genjyo Sanzoue is a painted scroll depicting the life of the eminent Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang, comprising twelve volumes and seventy-six sections. The narrative text of the scroll is primarily based on the A Biography of the Tripịtaka Master of the Great Ci’en Monastery of the Great Tang Dynasty (hereafter referred to as “Jion Den”), yet it extends beyond a mere translation into Japanese by incorporating omissions, alterations, and additions. Previous scholarly research has seldom analyzed Xuanzang’s image through a comparative study of the narrative text and its source. This paper conducts a detailed comparison between the narrative and the source material, elucidating three distinct aspects of Xuanzang’s portrayal unique to this scroll. The findings indicate that, regarding Xuanzang as a traveler, the scroll emphasizes his pursuit of the Yogācāra treatises and his pilgrimage to sacred sites commemorating the Buddha. It portrays Xuanzang as a figure who accomplished great feats alone, earning respect and offerings from people across various nations. In terms of religious studies, the scroll appears to depict Xuanzang more strongly as a proponent of “specialized in the study of Mahayana Buddhism” rather than “exclusively study Mahayana Buddhism”. Lastly, concerning Xuanzang as a translator, the scroll constructs an image of him revered by the emperor and leading a peaceful translation life. | |||||||||
