| 内容記述 | 芥川龍之介「桃太郎」は、既存「桃太郎」の筋書きだけを保留し、短い篇幅で、登場人物のイメージや物語の主旨などにおいて、大幅に書き直された。芥川「桃太郎」の転覆性を評価する先行論が少なくないが、その転覆が如何に生成し、呈されているのかという問題点について、十分に議論されていないため、本論文に多大な示唆を与えた傍ら、いくらかの余白も残してくれた。本論文は、文学倫理学批評の「スフィンクス・ファクター」という角度から着眼し、主要人物の「桃太郎」と「鬼」のスフィンクス・ファクターの組み合わせと変化を検討することにより、その生成メカニズムを探り、登場人物のイメージがなりうる底流を掘り下げてみた。それを通して、芥川は、この「桃太郎」をもって、当時の教科書における既存「桃太郎」に隠される正義と人間性の錯乱に対し、冷静な思考と認識を示した一方、時代の隠れ蓑を破り、人間性に対する鋭い洞察を見せ、ないし呼びかけとして受け止めることもできると、本作品の倫理的価値を指摘した。 | |||||||||

| 内容記述 | Ryūnosuke Akutagawa’s Momotarō retains the basic storyline of the traditional Momotarō tale, yet within a brief narrative , it significantly rewrites the character portrayals and thematic orientation. While previous studies have acknowledged its subversive nature, few have examined how this subversion is generated and articulated. This gap in the scholarship provides both inspiration and a point of departure for the present study.Drawing on the concept of the “Sphinx Factor” from literary ethical criticism, this paper analyzes the configuration and transformation of the Sphinx Factors associated with the story’s two central figures: Momotarō and the Oni (ogres). Through this framework, the study elucidates how Akutagawa destabilizes the conventional imagery of the Momotarō narrative and reconstructs it with a new ethical depth.The analysis suggests that Akutagawa, through his reinterpretation, critically engages with the notion of “mainstream” justice and humanity as perpetuated in school textbooks and dominant discourse of the time. By peeling back the ideological veil of the era, Akutagawa exposes the contradictions underlying the traditional tale and issues a sharp ethical call through his nuanced depiction of human nature. | |||||||||
